What started it all... The silk. Hand sewn and dyed, the silk is irresistible for our Pretty by JL silk bracelet loving hearts. The array of colors provides and infinite number of combination possibilities. Please understand that it is a natural fiber and expect inconsistencies.
Each batch varies, from the texture to dye batch. In over a decade of creating Pretty by JL Silk Bracelets, we have never returned a batch of silk to our supplier. We understand how special and unique the silk is. We have gotten to ‘know’ the silk and we use it all, wanting to be responsible consumers of a natural product.
Please understand that each time you order, colors may differ from what they were before. We won’t be updating the swatches with each dye batch we receive. There are always variations in color. There are also variations in texture. Some strands feel ‘dry’ or brittle when running them through your fingers. Some feel very smooth. Some have a raw fraying edge along the seam where the silk is sewn together. Please expect to get to know the silk and what each strand is appropriate for. Dry and fraying strands are not good for end pulls. It is uncommon that many batches are dry and fraying. So, if you order a variety of colors you will likely have many good options for end pulls. The dry and fraying strands work inside Pretty by JL pieces well. However, they are less strong and more likely to break. You will need to learn them and be mindful of this when tightening your knots.
Almost all the silk needs ‘fuzzies’ trimmed delicately with sewing scissors before using in Pretty by JL silk bracelets. Fuzzies refers to wisps of silk or little clumps of wisps and are not the same as ‘dry’ or ‘fraying’. Please expect to spend some time getting to know your silk strands and preparing them for silk bracelet making!
